Project Overview:
South
Carolina Pipeline Co. (SCANA) contracted Radarscan Inc. to detect
depth of cover of 120 miles of high pressure gas distribution pipeline
in South Carolina. The pipelines ranged from single to double lines,
4" to 16" diameter. Radarscan detected the depth of cover
every 500 feet, as well as at all ditch inverts at road crossings
& agricultural areas.
The purpose of the survey was to determine what topography changes
due to urban growth & agricultural erosion had affected the
original depths of cover.
Result:
Radarscan
Inc. was successful in identifying locations of concern that did
not meet minimum governmental standards.
Ground penetrating radar was deemed more efficient, cost effective
& accurate than manual probing or other methods.
All information was identified to strip maps & GPS co-ordinates.
